WoolSafe® North America Fiber Care Specialist On-line Training Course
(This course is administered by RL Seminars, LLC)
Welcome to the WoolSafe® Fiber Care Specialist On-line Training Course. For more information about the International WoolSafe® Organization, training and articles visit the WoolSafe® Academy website @ www.woolsafeacademy.org.
The WoolSafe® program is actually threefold and includes chemical testing, technician training and company verification and listing. Originally established in 1991 by the International Wool Secretariat (the Wool Bureau in North America ) - the WoolSafe®Organisation launched an approval program for professional carpet cleaning products and technicians in October of 1998 in the UK. There are now more than 200 cleaning products that have been tested and approved for use on wool and other fine fabrics worldwide as well as hundreds of WoolSafe® approved professional cleaners and companies.
Many of the approved cleaning products are manufactured by suppliers you already know. You can view the list on the WoolSafe® site at www.woolsafeusa.org/suppliers. As you'll see, allot of them are "green" approved as well. All testing and approval of cleaning chemicals for use on wool is performed in the UK at WoolSafe®Headquarters in Otley.
Of course, there is more to cleaning wool carpet and rugs than just the chemicals used, so this on-line course was developed and made available to learn more about cleaning and maintenance. Originally this course was taught in a face-to face format as in the UK and Australia, but obviously here in North America there is a challenge with distance, so this on-line version was created. The purpose of this course is to provide carpet and rug cleaners, facility managers and in-house cleaning personnel with a convenient means for expanding their knowledge of wool carpet and rug cleaning, maintenance and spotting, at the nominal cost of $199.95 per student. It is approved for two IICRC CECs in cleaning, restoration or inspection categories.
This on-line course is intended to supplement other training received such as the IICRC-approved Carpet Cleaning Technician (CCT), Upholstery Cleaning Technician (UFT), Rug Cleaning Technician (RCT) certification or other similar courses.
To purchase the course, first you need to create a User Name and Password on the left side of this page. Be sure you remember your information so you can log in and out and finish the course at your own pace. Also, if you need IICRC CECs, this will be the area that you fill in your Technican number.
Once you have completed and saved this information, go back to the home page of this website. About half way down the page you will see a button that says "Buy Now." Complete the billing and purchase information. Once this process is complete, you will receive a purchase confirmation by e-mail. If you don't receive it within 24 hours, contact Ruth Travis @ 615-972-0250.
Always go back to the home page, log in and then click on the "My Courses" button. This will take you back to where you left off.
The course is divided into 35 sections or modules. It is based on current information from numerous WoolSafe documents, the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification’s IICRC S300 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Upholstery Cleaning, the IICRC S100 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Carpet Cleaning and books written by Dr. Eric Brown and other well known authors.
Each module is followed by a self-evaluation in the form of multiple-choice questions, which are based on the information presented in the current module. Students should read the information presented in each Module carefully. Then, they should answer the multiple-choice questions at the end of each Module to test information retention. There is only one correct answer to each question. The question will be graded electronically for immediate feedback.
If the student selects the right answer, the program will indicate that the choice is correct. If the student chooses the wrong answer, the program will specify that the answer is wrong and recommend the student review the information again. At that point, the student will have to wait two hours to attempt to answer the question again; however, he or she can continue through the program.
Of course, the purpose for the wait is to prevent skipping over essential training information and simply answering questions. This defeats the purpose of the course. While a passing grade is 90% or higher, the objective is to achieve 100%, since there is no limit to the number of times an individual exam question can be attempted.
